ECO SCHOOLS
Eco-Schools is an international programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education that aims to empower students to bring about the change our sustainable world needs by engaging them in a fun, action-orientated and socially responsible learning.
Eco-schools is a global programme empowering children and young people to drive environmental change. It improves their skills across the curriculum, raises environmental awareness, improves the school environment and can create financial savings for schools. It is pupil-led; involving practical hands-on learning, which can engage the whole-school and broader community.
The programme follows a simple seven-step process, which forms the criteria for the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.
Eco-Schools is an international initiative, managed in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful that rewards the hard work schools are doing to improve their environment and to make the community aware of sustainability issues.
Each school can become an Eco-School by working through a structure of seven elements and a choice of ten topics. Schools can then apply for an Eco-Schools award.
Eco-Schools Scotland has linked the programme to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and you will be asked to select a goal to connect to your three topics. Read more about the Sustainable Development Goals.
There are 148 schools in the city registered as eco-schools.
